Fiber Braids 2026 – Hair Fiber for Braids and Box Braids
Fiber braids are braids made from synthetic kanekalon fiber instead of (or in addition to) your own hair. They give your braids length, volume, and color without stressing your natural hair. This guide covers the materials, the most popular braid types, and how much fiber you’ll need.
What are fiber braids?
Fiber braids use kanekalon fiber braided in with your own hair. The fiber is lightweight, durable, and holds its shape well. Read more about the material in our kanekalon beginner’s guide.
The most popular braid types
- Box braids – a classic, full and long-lasting.
- Color braids and strands – bright shades and ombré effects with fiber.
- Cornrows and knotless braids – sit close to the scalp.
How much fiber do you need?
Full box braids typically use 4–8 packs of kanekalon fiber, depending on braid size and quantity. Thinner braids and accent strands need less.
Installation and care
The fiber is braided in with your own hair using a three-strand braid. Ends can be sealed with hot water (if the fiber allows) or by tying. Braids are typically worn from a few weeks to a couple of months. Wash the scalp gently and moisturize as needed.
Color options
Kanekalon fiber comes in everything from natural shades to bright fantasy colors, so you can mix and match freely.
