Hair Extensions and Sports – Workout Tips for Active People
Working Out with Extensions Is Possible
Many active women worry that hair extensions won’t handle exercise. The good news is that quality extensions handle an active lifestyle excellently – as long as you follow a few basic guidelines.
Before Your Workout
- Tie hair in a ponytail, braid, or bun – loosely, not tight
- Avoid metal hair clips – they can damage bonds
- A fabric headband protects the hairline and keeps hair out of the way
Different Sports and Extensions
Gym and Weight Training
Gym training is the gentlest form of exercise for extensions. Hair doesn’t get as wet as during running and stays in place. Only note: avoid weights hitting extensions during back exercises.
Running and Outdoor Activities
Sweat is a bigger challenge for extensions. It contains salts that can dry out extensions. Rinse hair with water after training, even if you don’t fully wash.
Swimming
Chlorine and salt water are most harmful to extensions. Wet hair with clean water before swimming, use a swim cap when possible, and wash hair immediately after. Apply conditioner before swimming as a protective layer.
Yoga and Pilates
Excellent activities with extensions. Calm movement doesn’t strain attachment points. A loose braid is enough to keep hair managed.
After Your Workout
- Rinse hair with water to remove sweat
- Let hair air dry before brushing
- If washing, use sulfate-free shampoo
- Apply light hair oil to ends to restore moisture
Remember: hair extensions don’t prevent an active life. They just need a bit more attention during workouts.
